Work on me Jesus
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven (2 Corinthians 5:1-2 KJV)
I love watching programmes like Grand Design, Homes Under the Hammer and House Doctor as they give great ideas for decorating and furnishing our earthly, temporal homes made of bricks and mortar. However, in 2 Corinthians 5 Paul reminds us of another house that we need to be concerned about that is, the eternal one not made with hands. He further reminds us, that ye (we) are God’s building, listed under his ownership. (1 Corinthians 4:9 KJV)
When building a house it is wise to enlist the knowledge and expertise of an architect. One of the responsibilities of an architect is to look beyond your immediate requirement and design a flexible building that will adapt with changing needs and complies with building regulations.
Likewise, in building our eternal homes we need to study God’s Word and develop an intimate relationship with Him in order to build according to His plan and design.
We cannot be on this earth without a foundation as the pressure of life will
hinder us. It is essential that Christ is our foundation. He is the solid rock that is able to sustain and bear the weight of the circumstances in our lives ‘because all other ground is sinking sand.’ (Edward Mote)
As a listed building we need to obtain approval for any work undertaken that would affect our special character. Seeking the Lord’s direction, we will not
break down walls that need to be in place or build walls without consent.
Dr Maurice, from the programme House Doctor, would always say remove all the clutter from your homes. That is, those things in our lives that would hinder the flow of the Holy Spirit. When God was about to deliver Israel He requested that preparation be made. One of the things they were required to do was to remove all the leaven out of their homes. In Jewish literature leaven represented an evil influence. They identified fermentation as a process of corruption.
On a daily basis we need to ensure that our house is free from clutter and those things that will prevent the Holy Spirit from taking up residence. We should continually ask the Lord to survey, fixed, renovate, restore, repair and improve us through His loving kindness and tender mercies. .
God does not want to crush our dreams and aspirations he wants them to
be fulfilled in Him. He desires the best for us, wanting us to achieve to our
highest potential.
Make room so that He can enter in the heart for which he died.
